Let's work to bring the troops home.
I was never for the war in Iraq to begin with. I didn't believe that weapons of mass destruction would be found. I didn't believe that Iraq was directly connected with the 9/11 disaster. I didn't believe that we would be bringing democracy to the Middle East. I didn't believe that putting American men and women in harms way - trading blood for oil - would be productive. Now, four years later, I can't believe we're still hearing the same tired rhetoric from the Bush administration. I don't believe we should "stay the course." I don't believe we should expect "victory" in Iraq. And I don't believe we should be torturing detainees in Guantanamo Bay or anywhere else.
I believe we should bring the troops home. I believe we should be making levees, not war. I believe we should question what we hear from the American media - we're not getting the whole story. I believe that the war in Iraq has destroyed America's reputation worldwide. I believe we can and should do things in our everyday lives that reduce our dependence on foreign oil and encourage the development of alternative energy systems. I believe that is where the power of the American citizenry lies. I believe in walking the talk. That's what I'm trying to do here.
